Standing next to my project from Chatham County Government called Wayfinder
When it comes to educational goals, the obvious is graduating and eventually moving on into the workplace or working for a higher level degree. For me, I really want to try and go for my Masters in Cybersecurity, however, that is a long term goal. My short term goal is actually creating a tutoring system for the IT department here at GSU. The Computer Science department lends tutors out from their tutoring program to help with the IT department. I am currently in communications with a professor that could act as a host for my ideas for a tutoring system with GSU.
What does it take to be a team leader for a group full of student tutors? When it really comes down to it, organization as well as good communications skills will help with that. Being able to organize a team of tutors to keep full coverage of all potential tutoring cases will initially be a challenge but once the team irons out problems with coverage it should become significantly easier. One thing that is going to make organization easier is my previous experience with Chick-Fil-a as a kitchen manager as well as my experience in the National Guard as a Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Guide and Assistant Platoon Guide. I've already made a brief for my host professor when it comes to technologies we are going to use as well as communication routes to take.
I look forward to the potential that the IT tutoring program could have if it picks up off the ground.
When it comes to professional goals. I want to be able to lead a team of either computer engineers or a cybersecurity team in either a small firm or a larger corporation. The way I describe it to my friends and family is the difference between the work that Officers do in the military versus the work that enlisted personnel do. I'd rather be apart of the enlisted personnel because they are the one who are tasked out to do the actual work instead of a lot of paper work and sitting back hoping that your plan works.
I've had the pleasure of working on the software development team of ICS Chatham County. ICS are the backbone of everything technology that the Chatham County courts and jails use. Being apart of that team, I was introduced to the different positions within it, because within a well organized department team, every person knows how to do everyone's job. This is the model that I would like to follow when it comes to being a team leader for a team like that.
Besides that, I would eventually like to work up to the position of being a CTO or something like that for a large company, that would allow me to stack my resume, as well as learn more about how the industry works.
